From the recording Another Ghost Town

Lyrics

The roads in Southwest Kansas are dusty long and straight
Small towns show up along the way to offer up a break
You see working folks with oil rigs still clinging to the hope
the government will pay enough to pay them what they’re owed

We drove the land of wagon trains and dusty Boot Hill graves
Where common sense and faith in God get folks through their day
Hard work is rewarded and expected in this place
Where history and families matter and the flag still proudly waves

Ice cream and pie is all it takes to bring the folks around
to gather at the social hall for an evening on the town
Mothers and Dads, and daughters and sons are firm in who they are
They’re the cornerstone of America and the soul of the family farm

We drove the land of wagon trains and dusty Boot Hill graves
Where common sense and faith in God get folks through their day
Hard work is rewarded and expected in this place
Where history and families matter and the flag still proudly waves

The media and the oligarchs don’t know this place exists
It doesn’t fit the narrative of the coastal mega-rich
Folks don’t play the victim’s role in these small hardscrabble towns
They work the land and grow the food from sun up to sun down

We drove the land of wagon trains and dusty Boot Hill graves
Where common sense and faith in God get folks through their day
Hard work is rewarded and expected in this place
Where history and families matter and the flag still proudly waves
Where history and families matter and the flag still proudly waves
